Barge Pass

I like the way that the subject unfolds for the viewer the harder they look. I like to work with this drawing in space with the steel. On the face of it the work is in silhouette, either there is material or not material, but the 30mm of depth along with the mid tone of the glavanising actually activates the surface. It is sculptural relief in the true sense, in a Ghiberti Florentine baptistery doors way, where poetic suggestions must stand in for three-dimensional representations. I enjoy the challenge of this complexity. It is natural for the material and it is ultimately generous to the viewer.
